Funfair

Hi everyone. Well, that was a wet and gusty bank holiday here in the UK! However with such a fun theme for this week I spent some happy times in the room of stash, or should that read mess! I had a lot of ideas and whittled it down to a childhood memory. Pink candyfloss, whirlitzers, shoot the duck, stuffed teddies, merry-go-rounds and dodgem cars but over there in the corner, behind the swishing curtains, Gypsy Rose Lee or her descendant. Willing to tell you your fortune if you cross her hand with silver. If you listen carefully you can hear the group of schoolgirls giggling outside her booth and trying to decide whether to spend their precious money to find out if the boy in the year above will notice them and ask them to the local 'flicks!' I never did dare - she looked too scary and anyway I wanted to find out if I would pass John Lennon in the street and he would fall instantly in love with me, but I guess I knew even then that the likelyhood of that was very remote!

I stamped a fortune card onto the black base with clear resist and then brushed cosmic shimmer over it. The lady is from Artistic Outpost and I coloured her with pro-markers and adorned her with little gems for her headdress and jewellery. To keep up the exotic appearance her dress was coloured with twinkling h2O's. The crystal ball was stamped twice, onto card and then acetate so that she could stare into it and then fixed to sticky pads so that it sat out in front of her. The curtains comprise of gold net and gold crystal beads then different card for her sign and the price board.
I don't know whether she could still be found at funfairs in this modern age, I would guess that if anything there is a mechanical one, perhaps an electronic booth. However I still wouldn't use it. I've watched 'BIG' with Tom Hanks and wouldn't want to chance it!
Off to explore your lovely offerings, have a great week and keep dry! x

  4. Love the tag and the tale to go with it. The crystal ball is fAb! I always felt the 'Fortune Tellers' were for people with 'more money than sense' I'd much rather spend my 'hard earned' on a thrill ride or the coconut shy of course :0)
