Autumn Fruits and Berries - ¡Lotería!

Greetings!  When I first saw this week's theme, I considered making a Johnny Appleseed tag, but couldn't get motivated to make it.  Since I made two "Lotería" tags recently, Mermaids and Table Games, I decided to render the three fruits featured in the game's deck of cards.  However, except for the pear, the watermelon and cantaloupe are not Autumn fruits.  Therefore, I unified the trio by using an Autumn color scheme for the tags' background and ties.

To make my tags, I began by rendering illustrations of the fruit on a sheet of Daler-Rowney 100% cotton Watercolour paper with Talens gouache pans and Sharpie micron pens.  I used various techniques such as washes, splattering, and salt lifts to achieve the textures I needed.  Next, I created my tags with a couple of cardstock prints and solids.  All the edges were stained with a burgundy ink pad.  Then, I used rub-ons for the numbers and lettered the titles by hand.  Finally, I cut the fruits out and attached them to the appropriate tags using foam strips.  To complete the tags, I rounded the top corners and punched a hole centered on the top.  I also added a strip of coordinating ribbon to each tag, which I tied with a strip of jute cord.

I guess I am now committed to making a series of "Loteria" tags - LOL!  Thank you for your continued support.  May your week be filled with the Fruits of the the Spirit, "love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

  2. Great tags with the pear being my favourite. I like how the colours tie them together. I have to echo Valerie's comment and say I love how you've tied the ribbon - such a small detail but a large impact.

  3. Beautiful tags, your work on the three fruits is lovely, perhaps you will have to market the game when you have finished as 'Arnoldo's' version! Or maybe it will be the set that the family play with on special occasions and it will become the family heirloom. Blessings to you too x.

  7. Beautiful illustrations again Arnold - Definitely a treat to see a set of 3. Cleverly tied together as a set with the background tag. I agree with Barb you are definitely building a set your family will cherish. I am sure that many more of the 54 cards will match the fab themes Carolyn comes up with if you are going to go for it!!
