Christmas Bauble/Ornament

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, even though the days leading into it are very hectic at times.  This year hasn't been any better, especially with the recent tragedy here in the United States.  Therefore, I'm posting an ornament I made back in 2005.

When I was Head of St. James Episcopal School, here in Del Rio, Texas, my faculty members were invited to dress die-cut snowmen to hang on a garland trim over our school office door.  I was blessed to work with a very creative group, so everyone had fun with this project.  I designed a miniature Bishop's chasuble, mitre, and crosier to dress my snowman as St. Nicholas of Myra, the Patron Saint of Children in many Western cultures.  I cut the pieces by hand out of red, yellow, and green construction paper.  I also used a scrap of orange to cut out a carrot nose.  Then, I used a sharpie, as well as a brown marker, to do all the detailing on the vestments and snowman's body.  Finally, I glued the pieces together.

This post is in memory of the victims, but especially the children, of the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, in Newton, Connecticut.  In the words of St. Nicholas, "The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic Gods giving, by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves."  May the Peace of the Lord be with you.
