Deck the Halls

Greetings everyone! Gosh am I behind this year, I can't seem to get 'in the groove' but am determined not to miss a week of our challenge! I decided to depict mistletoe for my tag, as the Christmas tradition is that kissing under the mistletoe would lead to marriage. In our ancient past Druids held mistletoe to be sacred and that it would bring good luck and health. Another belief was that a good crop of mistletoe signalled that the next years harvest would be a good one. There are medicinal properties attached to mistletoe, but the berries are poisonous and should not be touched. Another ancient belief was that if you kept the bunch of mistletoe up and renewed it the following christmas then your house would be protected from lightning and fire!

I have had a real job taking a clear photograph because of the light. I used festive berries and pickled raspberry distress inks on the background and then die cut some branches that I coloured and lightly dusted with distress glitter. The poem was coloured with mowed lawn and walnut stain and the mistletoe was cut in several colours of green card from Tim Holtz' winter spray die and little pearls added for the berries. A rusty snowflake, 'Christmas Kisses' and some red paper twine finished the tag. Loving your 'decking of the halls' so far! Love to you all x
