Letter H

Another rather unusual looking plant - H is for Hakea. There are 149 types of hakea found in Australia, most commonly in Western Australia. Most of them have very showy, decorative flowers of various shapes and colours and woody seed pods.  I remembered this one vividly from a Western Australian holiday in wildflower season  because of its spectacular flower and woody fruit shaped  a little like a bird's beak. My tag depicts  Hakea laurina  (commonly known as pincushion hakea)  . I drew the stem and leaves in black permanent marker and shaded with random dots, softened with alcohol. The flower head is felt and the white styles are straight stitches with stranded embroidery thread.

I have described the techniques I used to create Tags D,E,F  and G on my blog, if anyone is interested in trying  any of them. Most of the techniques I have used on fabric  work well on paper, too.
