This week I have chosen Myrrh. It is the aromatic resin of a small thorny tree and as an essential oil it has a rich ,smoky, balsamic aroma that is ideal for purifying. It has a direct effect on the hypothalamus, pituitary and amygdala which is the seat of our emotions. For this reason it is a helpful aid to meditation and prayer. It has a long history and is referenced throughout the Old and New Testaments and is especially remembered as being one of the three gifts that the Magi gave to Jesus at his birth. It is helpful for dry, wrinkled and chapped skin and is used in oral hygiene products. It has been used medically since time began and the ancient Egyptians used it for the embalming of mummies. It is this link that I have chosen to illustrate in my tag.
I covered the tag with a piece of Egyptian inspired paper, then I photocopied a 'mummy' and glued it to some 'Clearly for Art' which I then moulded around a jar so that it curved slightly. A piece of hieroglyphics is behind a jar (holding the Myrrh!) with a small torn tag at the top that I printed on. Then I rolled tiny bandages up and added a bottom frieze of Eygptian figures.
I hope you all had a wondeful Easter and ate lots of chocolate! I am off now to enjoy your wonderful mmms. x
Great tag! Valerie

ReplyDeleteBrilliant tag - really enjoyed the story behind it too - and I love the tiny bandages, nice touch! :o)
ReplyDeleteGreat Egyptian themed tag! I think I need to catalogue all your information on these natural remedies - I frequently seem to suffer from some of your listed maladies! I used to love teaching about the Egyptians - the faces of the children when I eplained about the brain being hooked down through the nose prior to mummification were a sight to behold!! Have a good week. Carolyn xx
