Y is for Whirligig!

Hello to You all. Last week’s X tags were Xtremely creative!  I thought these last few letters would be tricky but the challenge has resulted in some fantastic tags with words I never thought of!
A while ago I came across a copy of the Patent Registration for The Whirligig, better known now as the Yo-yo. It was first patented on November 20th  1866 by James L. Haven and Charles Hettrich.
The document has design diagrams of the mechanism and shows the signatures of the inventors as well as witnesses. I love anything with old writing on, so this was right up my street!
I made a small copy of the document, coupled with a drawing of a Victorian lady playing with a Yo-yo.  Above these images I wrote Yo-Yoin a curly style that seemed to emulate the spinning discs and winding string of a Yo-yo. I edged the tag with gold ink to match the writing.  I used gold and Yellow threads for a tie.  I used the longest thread to make a faux Yo-yo by tying a loop at one end , with 2 buttons stuck together at the other end.
Not many Calligraphy terms beginning with Y but I have discovered that various methods for producing coloured inks ere mentioned by Canneparius of Venice in 1660, and Persian berries were used to make Yellow.
Thank you for all your comments on my X tag, I’m looking forward to seeing what you have all been making this week!
Bye for now, can’t believe we reach the end of the alphabet next week!
Love Jane xx

  3. Fabulous Jane. I didn't know the 'Whirligig' was so old and I think your own mini yo-yo is very inventive :0)

The tag is wonderful as well with the buttons making it all come to life.
