Roaring Twenties

Hi Ladies and Gentleman!
Just wanted to share this photo today, taken at the wedding of my great Uncle Benny back in the 20s. They are all wearing such gorgeous clothes in the style of the times. My Mum was 11 at the time, and is the one standing second from the left. She also seems to be the only one who was enjoying herself, none of the others is smiling!

Have a great week!
Valerie

  1. Wonderful photograph Valerie. I don't think smiling was encouraged on photographs in that era but very pleased that your mum broke the rules lol

  2. A lovely photograph, Valerie!
I always wonder why people on pics taken back in those early days of photography look so beautiful.... all of them! Even with snapshots (if you can call them that). Did they take much more care than today on looking good or was it just the fashion of those days (including make up, hairstyle etc)? Compared to images from today they all look like film star goddesses, don't they?

    Thanks for sharing!!!

    Hugs,

  3. True, Claudia, I think they did take more care of their appearance, and especially when being photographed, as that really was an 'occasion'. I never looked that good on my wedding photos!

  8. This is beautiful Valerie, thanks for sharing. I think people didn't smile for photos much because it took such a long time to set up and take the shot, and was a big thing to have your photo taken, mostly only for special occasions. My grandmother was a photographer and we have lots of family photos, but this is unusual.

  10. What a wonderful picture Valerie! All the ladies are so beautiful, particualrly the bride (of course) and your great uncle looks very dashing. And in spats too! Seeing your mum smile, in such a 'serious' photo, made me smile too :0)

  11. Amazing photo.
I just LOVE the wedding dresses from this era.

I think it was PC "NOT" to smile in photos from those days. (I read that somewhere but can't remember where.)

    Happy crafting
