Eyes

Hi Everyone!

I am back again after a relaxing month off. After a bit of lazing around in the garden, I have been on holiday to France and Andorra with my husband and 15 year old son ,Guy. I thought Andorra was very beautiful, the mountain scenery is very dramatic. France was lovely too, we found a quiet spot in the Ariege region, not far from a village called Saverdun, the nearest place of any size being Mirepoix. I wonder if that is near where you live, Carolyn? Now it is the last day of the school holidays and the teenagers who have been resident throughout the holiday, keeping Guy company, will be leaving and I hope I will have a quiet house for a bit. We left our older three sons at home, and although they did have a party, the house was still standing and had been cleaned and tidied-it was the bin full of empty bottles that showed there had been a party!

Wedjet Eye or Eye of Horus

 The Wedjet Eye or Eye of Horus was a symbol of protection and a promise of reconstitution or rebirth of the body for the Egyptians. I have taken the design from Egyptian Designs in Modern Stitchery  by Pauline Fischer, and made my own version of it. I painted stripes onto my gelli plate (you can read about it here on my blog) and printed it off, then filled in the gaps with gel pen. The eye itself is embroidered with black thread for definition, and because both men and women in Ancient Egypt used to paint their eyes with dark paints to make them stand out.
