Resurrection Sunday is almost here, and it's definitely one of my favorite holidays. One of its most recognizable symbols is the egg. Although it is believed to have pagan roots, it has become representational of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in many denominations. My girls and I used to enjoy dyeing hard boiled eggs, as well as making "cascarones," which are the Mexican egg shells filled with confetti. I've also enjoyed hand painting a hallow or wooden egg for each of them for over fourteen years now. They love displaying them around the house every year.
With my girls in mind, I die cut ovals with a Tim Holtz die to simulate egg shaped tags. I embossed them with a Tim Holtz Carnivale folder, because I felt the swirly design would give it the rounded dimension I wanted. I also did some distressing to bring the design out. Next, I marked a scalloped design on the top and bottom of the eggs with a Seweasy stitch piercer and embroidered them. I also embellished them with Tim Holtz bunny die cuts, mulberry paper flowers, and hand lettered name labels. Finally, I punched holes on the tops, added ties, and glued bows. I think they'll look great on some baskets my wife and I got for the girls. LOL!
Have a blessed Resurrection Sunday!
