Snow sports and games

Here is my tag for week 2. I must admit it took me a while to get going with this one, but once I found the right image it didn't take long to complete.

At first I couldn't find an image I wanted to use, but then remembered a Dutch Christmas card from last year and took this as my starting point. Apart from buying a few snowflakes in the Hobbycraft sale ( and stocking up on supplies while I was there!), I used what I could find in my studio.

For a base I used a tag from a book of craft papers as a template, making it with thin card and covered it in white felt with silver snowflakes on. Over this I layered some papers painted with watercolours, adding sugar and rock salt for crystals, and using patterned craft scissors to give a fancy edge. The image went on top of this, sprinkled with large and small snowflakes (the small ones are cut with a snowflake cutter left over from last week), then some small pompoms as snowballs.

To decorate the top corner I used some vintage buttons as snowballs or ice crystals on top of a layer of Angelina which had been ironed between two sheets of baking parchment.

Here is a close up of the lower half

and a close up of the vintage buttons.

For the reverse side of the tag I used some sparkly left over Christmas wrapping paper topped with snowflakes and stars.

This is the original Christmas card. I photocopied it as didn't want to cut it up!

  9. Well, as you know, I've got to know this tag very well the last couple of days xx

I love your choice of image and very wise to copy and keep your original. The choice of embellishments is perfect, especially the vintage buttons and your bit of Christmas sparkly. Lovely idea to decorate the back too
