Spring Cleaning?
I have a confession to make, I haven’t done any housework for nearly fifteen years! In 1997 I had a brain haemorrhage and have been a wheelchair user ever since. Iwould like to dedicate my tags this week to all the carers I have had in thattime who have done my housework and Spring cleaning for me! And so much more!It is thanks to their support that I am able to take part in Tag Tuesday. I feel really blessed in being able to be creative. I do not feel disabled atall.
For my first tagmy ‘inner child’ took over! I made somebubble prints on watercolour paper by blowing through a straw into a jar ofpurple watercolour and washing-up liquid solution. The teddy on the washing line image was onthe back of a birthday card. There are a few daisies here and there but I didn’twant to cover the delicate bubble print paper too much. Above the teddy picture, I have written asimple THANK YOU x
The second tagis a vintage image from an old card. Thecaption reads ’Gladys wasn’t going to ruin her kitten heels for anyone!’ shecovers her shoes whilst mopping the floor. I mounted this onto some card with a 50’s style design, and aco-ordinating tie to finish.
Here are bothtags together backed by my lino print of a spider’s web.
Sorry pics are not great but my camera broke today and I had to scan tags instead. I will take proper photos when I can and post them on my blog if anyone is interested.
Until then,

have a great week, love Jane xx
Jane! Your post touched my heart. How nice of you to think of those who did the cleaning for you. I really like the idea behind your art. The textured surface created by bubbles. This wins the prize in my opinion! Just fantastic. What about those 'mules' hey? I guess they are called kitten heels but I know them as mules. Back in the day, in the U.S. (I'm Canadian and have always lived here) there was a mail order company called 'Fredericks (spelling?) of Hollywood' and they had those high heel slippers with fluff galore. They'd go right along with the see-through apron, and the sheer nightie (naughty!!) with the ostrich feather trim. Total Zha zha Gabor. She actually wore them. So did lots of sexy American housewives apparently. I saw one of those old catalogues in a thrift store in the 60s. It was too funny! Anyway, love your tags, *smiles* Norma
ReplyDeleteHi Norma, lovely to hear your memories of kitten heels in the U.S. I can just imagine! The bubble printing was such fun but very messy! Special thanks to my P.A. Viv for helping to clean up after this. Viv's other job is working with very young children, and she does bubble printing with them. She couldn't believe it when I told her that's what I wanted to do on Monday evening!
DeleteMust also tell you of the safe arrival in Bournemouth of the Swallow with Sprite hitching a ride. They are hovering around above my computer as I write! The warm air make them move and the light catches on the gold bullion. The tag is really lovely, I will cherish it. Thank you for sending them off on their long journey, Jane xx
Lovely tags, and glad you are concentrating more on your abilities than your disabilities! Gld you have good carers, they are so important. I hate housework, but I have the greatest respect for people who get rid of dirt and make out lives comfortable! Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie. I am really blessed with lovely carers and helpers, Jane xx
DeleteHello Jane - fantastic tags, and a moving story. I'm so pleased that you have had decent carers over the difficult years... it makes such a difference. The internet links us with many 'friends' that we shall probably never meet but the support and camaraderie is just the same.
ReplyDeleteHi Gilli, this is why I am enjoying Tag Tuesday so much, it is like going to an art/craft class whenever I want without the hassle of wheelchair taxis etc. Its lovely to come here and feel I'm amongst friends, Jane xx
DeleteWhat brilliant tags and such a loving reason for making them, you are inspirational and I admire you hugely for coping the way you do. I'm glad you can absorb yourself in your art, big hugs to you xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Barb, creativity has been a great help to overcoming difficulties, I'm having the time if my life! Jane xx
DeleteI salute you Jane for letting us in. Your tags are great, I am going to show them to my au tie as she is called Gladys and it is just the sort of thing she would come out with, she is one of life's special people and I have a feeling you are too.

This is wonderful work and I'm sure your creative thank you to all your Spring cleaners is appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! How thoughtful of you to dedicate these to your care givers. My Dad was wheelchair bound and had a wonderful care giver named James. Isn't it lovely when they become part of the family? They truly give great care because they care greatly. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMary Ann
Ps~ I call them both Kitten heels and mules, although I prefer the words Kitten heels because it sounds so much nicer! :D
What a wonderful tribute - thanks for sharing your story and inspiring so many to continue using their creative talents for their own enjoyment and that of others.
