Sewing

Mo's tag for sewing

Included is a mini needle case with tassels on the spine & S E W on the front. There are mini buttons, a mini safety pin, needle & thread. I enjoyed doing this, spending many of Saturday's hours making it. The button hanging on the thread at the punch hole was from my mum's old button tin off an old baby shoe. It seemed the right size for this

  3. Thank you ladies :) It was fun & it took ages to decide what to leave out I had so many ideas, but looking at it now, I think I need to learn about balancing colours. Or does it really matter? It seems too blue or maybe it's just what I laid it on to photograph?
What do you think? Anyone? Lots of questions - sorry.
Hints & tips always gratefully received ;)

  4. Lovely little tag Mo, I like your little needlebook, I too had a little shoe button and used it in my tag, a perfect way to keep and enjoy it :)
In answer to your question, layout the only thing I would change is the width of the tag, I would move everything over towards and on top of the measuring tape (sometimes a glimpse is all you need.) and make it narrower. All the elements are great! the colours of things are fine and I think it is just the background thats making you think its too blue, I tend to photogragh on a white background.

    1. Thank you so much for your help Yvonne. I will try out your tips in the next week. I realise my Purple tag looks better on a lighter background so must think twice next time. I saw your wee button too :)

  5. Love the needle case-- great idea! The best way to improve (if you think you need to) is look at other tags to get ideas. Online scrapbook stores like scrapbook.com or twopeasinabucket have viewing galleries of all types of collage projects. And there is always practice, practice, practice! But I think your tag is great!

Play about with your composition until it feels right then stitch it down.

    1. Thank you Lynn ;) I have lots of practise to do and places to read. I'm loving this though, it's so very different for me and quite out of my comfort zone - Yikes ;)

  9. Great little tag, Mo esp the needle case and shoe button. Glad you are enjoying the challenge. To balance colours use complementary colours (colour opposites): blue and orange, red and green, yellow and purple. Just a tiny bit of the opposite colour will help balance your composition, good luck, Jane xx

    1. Thanks Jane. I was pointed in the direction of a colour co-ordinates site in connection with using yarns, it never occurred to me to use it in this media too. Tut. What a dope! I'm learning ;) Thank you so much :-)

  10. Soooo sweet...just LOVE the little needlecase and other sewing embellies... ..and in answer to your question.. if you feel that something is 'not quite right' with the balance...move embellishments etc around, add something, take something away etc...when you are happy, then stick it all down....but not too stress over it, the main thing is to enjoy creating something and having fun - right?!!...I agree a white background would make your tag stand out more..perhaps adding another little red button would even up the blue-ness?..(although, I'm no expert on composition LOL!)... Anyway, I think it's a clever and fun little tag..Well done Mo!

    1. Thanks to you too Jan. I should trust my instincts a bit more, I do remember thinking something wasn't quite right but doubted myself. But I am a newbie and love to learn and hopefully improve.
