Hi everyone. I guess all that rain last week will have made for a lot of rust! I had so many ideas for this week I got a bit cofobulated! In the end I found a lovely poem by Mary Carolyn Davies and decided to try and illustrate that.
I have used quite a few materials to do this. Firstly I made a hinged tag and smothered it in brown acrylics and Distress Brushed Corduroy crackle paint. Then I hunted in the garden and found some real rusty washers and a nut and an old biscuit tin lid that fell apart when I lifted it. The heart was die cut from some metal sheet and rusted using Distress embossing powder and then I cut it in two, punched some holes and 'mended' it with some old wire and mounted it on top of the rusty tin.
I love the way the real and the faux rust come together. The poem reads:
Iron, left out in the rain
And fog and dew,
With rust is covered. - Pain
Rusts into beauty too.
I know full well that this is so:
I had a heartbreak long ago.
I finished the tag off with a paper rose I sprayed with brown ink, a grungeboard key I rusted as above, the poem and a piece of ribbon dyed with Rusty Hinge and Walnut stain and a metal 'live'and 'love' I found in my stash.
Thanks for all your kind comments my dear tag friends! Hope you all have a lovely week. x
