Seed Heads
This tag has a photo on it that I took of a milkweed pod that I discovered when I was out walking. I love how the milkweed fluff is ready to float away in the breeze. The background of the tag was an experiment with alcohol inks.
Milkweed plants are considered weeds, but they are crucial to the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. The butterflies lay their eggs under the milkweed leaves, and when the caterpillars hatch out, they have their food source right there. They sometimes complete their whole life cycle on the plant. The butterflies that hatch out here in New England migrate to California or Mexico in the fall.
Thanks for all of your kind comments! I so enjoy reading them.

Barb, this is really fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI love you photograph. Monarchs are close to my heart, because they visit my garden annually on their way down to Mexico. They just left Del Rio last week. They are the first sign of Spring in my par of the world. Blessings!
