D is for Double-Stroke letters and Descenders

Continuing my Abecedary of Calligraphy, D is for a Decorative Double-Stroke Alphabet and Descenders all Decorated with  Daisies and Dandelions.  I used gold ink to write this Double-stroke D, and watercolour for the wild flowers.

The double lines of these letterforms are formed by two separate strokes of the pen.  The rounded character of the letters is similar to uncials.  Some of the capital letters of this alphabet are particularly decorative with flourishes and curling tongues. I like this style so might use these letters again as we go through the alphabet.
Descenders are the parts of a letterform that extend below the base-line; ie: f g j p q y. My second tag shows just the letters with Descenders, again decorated with Daisies.

Thank you for all your sweet comments.  I shall be round later to see all your Delightful ‘D’s.
Bye for now,

Jane xx

  4. Beautiful calligraphy and the combination with the lovely dandelions reminds me of illuminated texts. Perhaps in the long distant mists of time an ancestor painted his days away and handed his artistic skills down through the genes. Love this.

  10. Stunning work on both - the daisy and dandelion complement perfectly the golden D. I love finding our new information too . I didn't know what descenders were until I saw your tag and read your explanation. thanks.
