White on White
Last week, I was in Hangzhou in China, where the beautiful West Lake area and the Leifeng Pagoda reputedly are where the well known Chinese legend of the White Snake Lady comes from. The White Snake Lady transformed herself into a beautiful woman to marry her suitor who offered her an umbrella as they walked along the shores of West Lake. To cut a long story short, disastrous events occurred, and the story goes that the snake lady was imprisoned in Leifeng Pagoda. When the pagoda was destroyed white smoke was seen to rise from the ruins, suggesting that the White Snake Lady's spirit rose to join her husband's.... This legend provides the storyline for one of the more popular Chinese operas, so my tag this week depicts the White Snake Lady for White on White. Here is a link to the story if you are interested to find out more about the White Snake Lady.
