I was very inspired by this week's theme so I made two tags!
The first one is a tag about the song, You Wear It Well by Rod Stewart.
I was a big fan of his when I was in high school -- and still am.
He wasn't one of the "cool" performers of the era, but I never cared about that.
It's a simple song and not real special -- but it's always been special to me.
The song starts out, I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon
but to settle down and write you a line --
and it goes on with the guy writing to a girl he'd loved and lost.
He talks about memories of their times together, and how she had style.
He wraps it up at the end with, My coffee's cold and I'm getting told that I've got to get back to work, so when the sun goes low and you're home all alone, think of me and try not to laugh
Think of me and try not to laugh, was the quote I used
in my Senior yearbook, under my graduation photo.
It might just be what I have incised on my tombstone, someday.
For the background of the tag I used paper with a handwritten letter;
the main element is a little girl showing off the bow on her fancy dress by posing from behind.
The clocks are for the passage of time, the shorthand paper word "innocent", to evoke young love and happy memories...and the days when communication was writing a letter...or a song.
The next tag was about the song, originally by Prince but then made famous by Sinead O'Connor,
Nothing Compares 2 U
It's a torch song where the singer is lamenting the loss of a love.
When the song was popular I'll never forget one of my co-workers echoing the exact words of the song when he told us how his lover had left, and all his flowers had died.
I still think of him every time I hear the song.
So, this tag has soft blues and the words a gallant friend, an associate, to remind me of Ron; a faded rose and the words from a book page at the top, here, long time, both of which are the flavor of the song.
The birds on a branch at the top, which again are mentioned in the lyrics, It's been so lonely without you here, like a bird without a song.
Then a vintage image of a boy and girl to portray innocence...
I like how they're looking away, because isn't it just like that? You have someone special in your life and you're young and busy, and looking everywhere else but at them.
Until, perhaps, they are gone.
I liked playing with the blue and the coral color of the girl's dress and repeating it with a torn piece of vintage wallpaper at the bottom.
And, I added washi tape with the image of a pencil which fit almost perfectly over the background of a fence post; the pencil reminded me of youth/school.
I could probably do another 8 or 10 on this theme -- songs are a great muse!
I so enjoy being a part of this blog and project, and even though I don't participate as much as I'd like to, I love it when I have the chance to play. And I love seeing all your tags each week!
Both tags are terrific and so bright and full of character.
