One morning as I lay in bed I heard a distinct bird call very different from the usual in my neck of the woods. One year later I finally discovered what bird it was. A 'towhee' and they migrate so for periods of time I'd hear it and then not at all. Since then I watch them run in the garden when they are in town. I especially love how 'meaty' they are. And I love their call.
This male rufous-sided towhee sits on the nest while the love of his life grabs a bite to eat. She's probably running in the garden right now! He is painted with india ink and watercolor onto tissue covered tag stock. He sits on a paper branch where the nest is made of spanish moss, an egg cut from a color paint sample card, and feathers from my budgie bird. I'm fairly certain that towhee eggs are not blue and especially such a deep turquoise but the name of the color chip is 'Ariels song' and I couldn't resist using it. I like the blue against the mustard of the towhee body.
The theme of this weeks' card is LACE. I made a double edge of paper lace for the bottom of the tag. One is cut from sheet music; the other from the same tissue used on the tag. The eyelet effect was created by a hole punch.
On my walks I'm going to be keeping my eye out for a specific lichen that is ruffly and a perfect terra verde color. This may get tucked into the nest. And I've a small snail shell skeleton around here somewhere. And a tiny seashell. And...and...and...
I'm enjoying everyone's tags very much!! *smiles* Norma

ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful tag Norma.I love birds too.
ReplyDeleteI just love the mix of techniques and textures on your tag. It is stunning. I think it is perfect just the way it is, but then, it is fun to find new treasures to add to the creation. Since it is quite balmy here in Michigan, the only birds I am hearing are crows and chickadees. Hugs.
