Hi everyone, wasn't that an amazing purple haze of tags last week? I really enjoyed them.
Sewing has always been a hobby of mine and I miss all the material shops as you now have to hunt for them down my way. I used to make all my clothes and then for my daughters. The one thing I longed for was a dress form, so I have had the Tim Holtz sewing room die since it was launched and it seemed the right thing to use for this tag!
Firstly I embossed the manilla tag with the imprint of a sewing pattern (Tim Holtz again!) and used old paper distress ink to make it look like an old pattern. Then I die cut the dress form and decided to pin pieces of pattern on rather than dress it as I usually do.. The pattern pieces are a studio 490 stamp and I stamped on some tissue paper and put them onto some cotton material. The left hand side represents a calico mock piece before the material is cut! The needle betweens packet is a Tim Holtz stamp with a piece of embossing packet behind and then I photocopied a vintage cotton spool and wrapped red cotton on to it. The buttons and pins are from my stash and the lovely scissors have been jealously guarded waiting for the right project! I dyed some ribbon to match at the top. Little pieces of cream lace complete the bottom of the tag.
I had great fun making this one and await eagerly to see what you all put together.
Thanks everyone who kindly comments on my tags, I hope you all have a lovely week 'sewing!'

ReplyDeleteLove the thought that's gone into this one. It's interesting how many of us are putting little treasures from our sewing boxes.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous tag Barb...Oh, I would love a 'real' dress form (and I don't even sew!!LOL) ..so I make do with the TH dressform die, which is one of my favorite dies! (I've also used it for this challenge ;) )
ReplyDeleteI love how you have added the dress and pattern to the dressform...beautifully embellished (as always) wonderful sewing tag.

Fabulous tag! I love the deep red colours you have used. Bright red I don't like at all, deep red I love. And as to the dress form, well, that was an inspired idea, it looks fantastic with the dress in the making!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tag. I love the way the colors draw me around and around the tag. The hand dyed ribbon is exquisite.
