The letter V

Hello everyone, I hope you have all had a Very good week and are enjoying the sunshine,  long may it last!
For the letter V  in my Calligraphy Abecedary I have chosen Versals, Vowels and Violets!

'Versals' relates to a style of ornate capital letters, used to start a Verse, paragraph, etc., in a manuscript.  Versals are traditionally the subject for burnishing with gold leaf.

The Versals on my tag, the Vowels A E I O U, are written in the Lombardic style. The letters are broad enough to allow for  piercing with a diamond  on the curves and stems, in addition to flourishes on the hairline cross-strokes.

On this second tag I have written a Lombardic V as the opening letter of a few lines giving the definition of Versals.  The tag is finished with a few Violet flowers at the bottom using Violet and Viridian ink. Violet ink was used for writing the letters on both tags together with Violet/purple threads for a tie.  The tags look great on the purple cover of my tag book!
Looking forward to seeing what you have all been creating this week.
Bye for now,
Jane xx
