Italy

I spent 10 years learning to speak French and took my university degree in French and English education because I loved France so much. I traveled there and I studied there. Twenty years later when I finally went to Italy, I felt like I had finally gone home. I wondered why I didn't take a couple of my French years and learn Italian!
Italy...warm, wonderful people, fantastic food, unbelievable art, and eye popping architecture. One of my favorite places in Italy is Venice. And, of course, the most over the top architecture in Venice is St. Mark's Cathedral.
So, here's my tag. The background is painted that incredible blue that you see only in the Mediterranean. Then, I cut water color paper in the shapes of a few parts of the cathedral, drawing designs on them to simulate the cutout stonework and statuary. I layered these pieces, building them up at different levels to try to create some depth. I just wish it were better.

  2. Your tag turned out great! The blue is a beautiful color, and I admire your sketches. I wish I could draw! I love the French language and took several years in college, although I'm nowhere near fluent. Growing up and attending university in East TN didn't give me much practice speaking the language, and I didn't fly until I was 22!

  3. Lovely sketch of San Marco, it is a most amazing place isn't it! I did the French route myself by doing ALL my schooling in the language but Italian was the other one I grew up with as a child in Libya!
