Metal

Bonjour!

For my tag this week I have embossed some silver foil with a Paris themed embossing folder.  I cut a heart freehand and covered it with foil which I coloured with alcohol ink.  The word Paris was cut from the same piece of embossing as the background.  I got the idea of the padlocks from the custom of lovers attaching padlocks with their names on to bridges in Paris and throwing away the key to symbolise everlasting love.  This began on the Pont des Arts but now can be seen on many other bridges across the Seine.  The custom has become so popular that there is now a petition to remove and ban them as they are rusting and becoming an eyesore.  It is also said that the weight is too great for some of the structures.

See you all again next week - hope you are enjoying some sunshine!

  3. I didn't know about that tradition at all, sounds rather sweet and romantic. Your tag illustrates it so beautifully. Thats some darned fine embossing, I love that Paris bit! And the locks tied to the tag with the rope is a fabulous touch.

  4. Gorgeous Carolyn, absolutely gorgeous <3
I love the tale of the padlocks on the bridges, its a shame they need to be removed, but I understand the need to take care of the bridges. Perhaps they may be preserved somewhere on display :-D

  5. Great information, and a lovely embossed tag. The addition of the padlocks finishes it off beautifully.

  6. Gorgeous tag, Carolyn ! And I never knew about the padlocks, you learn something new every day and that's a great thing to learn :) I'm feeling inspired by all of the tags - spending a quiet day at work just going through them ! I might have to casually join in and post the results on my own blog...

Can't wait to see the next theme !
