The 1950's

Bonjour to all my tag friends!

I am quite fascinated by the attitude towards women in this era - not yet the emancipation of the 60's and advertisements are a super reflection of the times.  So here is a glamorous lady going into raptures over her Christmas pressie from her darling husband - a vacuum cleaner!!!!!  I do not think I could be held responsible for my actions if I unwrapped this on 25 Dec!!  The background is a sample of 1950's fabric in the V and A.

Have a good week - very hot here!!

Carolyn xx

  1. Yes, attitudes have changed! I don't stroke my cleaner, either! Great tag, Valerie

  2. I love it! I think women in the 1950's were truly happy with this type of gifts, because the new technology was finally making their "traditional" job as housewives much easier. It was the seed of their liberation which allowed them to later become professionals. As a husband and father of 2 girls, I am glad women have so many more choices. However, as a society we still have a long way to go with women's rights, as well as that of minorities. I'm sorry I got so philosophical - LOL! Have a blessed weekend, my friend!

  4. That is cool one. If my hubby dare to give me such a gift on any occasion, God will have to save him

  5. The 50s were certainly a different era - your tag really depicts that " ideal" view of the housewife of the time - always glamorous, up with the latest appliances and ideas and devoted to her home and family. Really great interpretation of the theme

Cute tag. I think it's a good reminder that guys could use less business ties as gifts too, don't you think? teehee ...Just in time for Father's Day. :)

  11. Oh Carolyn how you made me laugh!Your tag is terrific!
Once, outspoken woman that I am, I could not help the explosion of disdain that I uttered when a fellow told me,as he gave his little woman a squeeze that he had bought his wife a new iron for her birthday....Odd don't you think that we aren't on their Christmas card list anymore?
There are so many things that have changed for the better!

  12. Fabulous tag, it reminds me of my x husband giving me an iron as an anniversary present. It was the only anniversary present in the 25 years. Wonder why I divorced him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
